Ian Ayres's Super Crunchers is a great book that takes you on a tour of the world of number crunching. Though there have been other similar books like Freakonomics, Ian's book adds another dimension to it, that of Big Data and what people, companies and governments across of the world have been doing with it. You will read fascinating stories like the two Canadian doctors who have saved over 100000 lives on promoting evidence based medicine as well as the dark side where some retailers are attempting price discrimination based on personal data. Along the way you will be presented with thought provoking ideas like how the U.S. Internal Revenue Service could provide advanced warning on when a couple is going to be headed for divorce just based on tax data!
