Book Review: Rework by Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson

From the founders of Basecamp comes this management book that gives a contrarian view of how great companies are built and run. They advocate a multitude of things which will seem contrary to practices at many companies. They advocate taking as little outside cash as there is always a noose attached to other people's money. They abhor long term contracts, excess staff, meetings, thick process, long term roadmaps and office politics. They really like to skip rockstars and include the thinkers, the quiet workers who get the job done. They strongly believe in less is more in terms of the product as well as throwing less at the problem. They hire only when it hurts. They hate when someone creates a company policy just because an individual or team did something wrong. They strongly believe in leaders owning the bad news. They love to hire great writers. They have an unique way of hiring people where they like to test drive their future employees. They also provide numerous examples of other famous companies that believe in some of these principles. This book is an easy gem to read.
