Documentary Review - Poverty in America from DW Documentary

Often times I have heard the phrase "this doesn't happen in our backyard" when the word poverty is used in our country. I have only heard it being rightfully referenced in context of the developing world or just some big cities of this country. I rarely find this topic to be openly discussed in conversations or in the popular press as if it might bring shame  to a country or a community. This documentary from DW takes you through an eye opening journey of poverty in USA. I have also heard time and again from many that poor people are lazy or are addicted to welfare. While there are always bad apples, this documentary will bust all those myths. It is gut wrenching to see all this hidden poverty in a land of abundance and plenty. There are an ever increasingly larger number of people being pushed into poverty every year and the situation is getting dire. There are families who don't have proper shelter and don't have money to put food on the table. Seeing this documentary, you will realize that poverty is more unforgiving in a country like ours (i.e the laws, the public attitude, climate,  healthcare, crime, etc.). I have also heard some say that it's only in that other big brother communist country where there is all kinds of data being collected. This documentary will bust that myth too. People who have had a late payment for a rent are essentially banished forever since landlords can get access to financial records even from 10 years back and can easily deny renting to them leading to homelessness forever. We all know that the cost of healthcare here is the worst compared to any part of the world.  It has an outsized impact to people below the poverty line. Unfortunately I have also  heard some advocate Malthusian theory in this day and age. There are indeed lot of folks from inner cities to rural areas that don't have access to medical facilities. Luckily, America has many amazing big hearted invisible souls who are trying to make a difference and working hard to get these people out of the vicious cycle of poverty as well as provide free healthcare. You will also be introduced to them as well as part of this documentary.  I am sure many of you who are reading this already do your part. This one is a must watch and will force all of us to act and volunteer besides just monetary donations.
